Business Law & Litigation

Welcome Business Owners and Entrepreneurs!

Business Owners and Entrepreneurs have been my bread-and-butter clientele since 2011, and I appreciate you so much!  It is my goal to be a valuable resource for you, assisting business owners with those legal issues that naturally arise when running a business.

Here are some of the services that I offer my business owner clients:

Texas Civil Litigation

It is very, very common for things to go awry when you are in business. Breach of contract cases, breach of fiduciary duty, partnership disputes, partnership “divorces”, product liability, construction defect, etc.  If something of this nature happens to you -- you are likely going to need an attorney to fight for your rights! Likewise, if you get served papers, don’t hesitate to contact me so we can get started working on a solution to the matter.

It is common for two (or more) people to start out in business together and things do not go as planned. Maybe your partner is stealing from you. Maybe your partner is controlling the finances and not giving you your share. Maybe you’ve got a customer or subcontractor that did not perform their end of the contract. Whatever it may be, you need an attorney to help you through it and to reach the best solution.

More often than not, your case will be resolved at mediation or through informal negotiations with the opposing side, and trial is often not necessary. Because of this, I’ve really honed in on my negotiation skills and pre-trial skills over the years. But you do want to have someone who has the energy level and work ethic to take a case to trial if necessary, and I certainly have those. I strive to serve every client with integrity, passion, and efficiency. Send me a message to see if we’re a good fit to work together.

Collection Letters

…and lawsuits and post-judgment when necessary

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just focus on your passion, running your business, and not have to worry about collections?  Many others have thought the same thing and turned their collections over to me!  Once an invoice is past 30 days due, you need to contact me!  That needs to be your policy going forward.

Let your customer know that it’s not personal, it’s just your policy. If you’ve let it go past 30 days, then guess what your customer thinks? They think you don’t need the money. Is that right, that you don’t need the money?  I bet not. You’ve likely got bills to pay. So what are you waiting for?  Contact me today!

Property Tax Protests

If you own commercial property in Lubbock, Texas, consider hiring me to handle your property tax protest. I have developed winning strategies over the years and I’m excited about the opportunity to work with you on your Lubbock property tax protest!  I’ve represented hotel owners and warehouse owners in their protests and I’m open to representing other types of commercial property as well.

Many people do not know how much preparation goes into a property tax protest and the various strategies and calculations that can be utilized. The old days of simply filing a protest and going in there to “negotiate a deal” are long and gone.

More and more, the protests are going to a hearing by the 3-person panel and you must have a full case with facts and evidence. The panel members are knowledgeable and will ask questions based on the facts. It is often a true debate with the appraisal district.

You will get much better results by having an attorney, like myself, represent you through this process. If hired, I will research and put together a presentation for your best case. The tax savings accomplished can be significant!

Usually the deadline for filing is May 15, but it will say the exact date on the Notice Value letter from the appraisal district.  Don’t hesitate to contact me, as there are only a certain number of commercial property tax protests that I can take every year due to time limitations and those slots fill up quickly!

Contract Drafting & Review

*Including Real Estate Transactions

You would be surprised how many contractors blindly sign a contract (that was not to their favor) without having an attorney review it first. Then, they end up in litigation and come to me. The better approach is to have a sound contract going in to the project. I’m great at reviewing contracts and drafting contracts. Let’s get you taken care of at the beginning of the project with a well-drafted, thought-out contract.

Examples include:

  • Employment Agreements

  • Employee Non-Compete Agreements

  • Employee Non-Disclosure Agreements

  • Employee Handbooks

  • Mechanic Lien Notice Letters (and Lien Filing and Foreclosure Lawsuits when necessary)

  • Independent Contractor Agreements

  • Annual Meeting Minutes

  • Membership Transfer Agreements

  • Insurance Premiums Negotiation

  • And Much More!

New Business Owners & Entrepreneurs
